You'll Be In My Heart - Michael Crawford

Tarzan is the next orphan on our list for this week. Unlike a lot of Disney orphans, we see how Tarzan lost his parents. Luckily, the infant was adopted by a very kind ape that raise him to be a very well-adjusted person.

Tarzan falls into the 'determined orphan' category due to Kerchak's attitude toward him not being part of the family. Tarzan feels the need to prove himself to Kerchak and that has created a strong personality which he uses to help his adoptive family.

Tarzan's main theme is the hit single You'll Be In My Heart which was covered in 2001 by MICHAEL CRAWFORD from his album of Disney songs called THE DISNEY ALBUM.

You'll Be In My Heart - Dave Rodgers

It was nine years ago on this day that Disney released Tarzan to theatres across the nation. The film was well received especially for its new uses of the animation medium and its music, provided by Phil Collins.

One of the songs that Collins wrote went on to be a Collins' biggest hit. You'll Be In My Heart has gained world wide notoriety and has been covered by many international artists, including Italian born DAVE ROGERS.

Dave Rogers, one of the many alias for Giancarlo Pasquini, is known as the 'Grandfather of Eurobeat' and was instrumental in the rise in popularity of the genre in Japan. Aside from writing music for his albums, Rogers writes for others, remixes countless numbers of songs and he even wrote the theme song for Ultraman Tiga.

Rogers has contributed a number of songs to the various DISNEY EUROBEAT albums. You'll Be In My Heart appears on EUROBEAT DISNEY 1.

You'll Be in My Heart - Steve Tyrell feat. Dave Koz

I don't have very many covers of Phil Collins' You'll Be in My Heart. In fact I don't have very many covers of any modern Disney songs due to them being new. I know that seems to make sense, but it seems hard to believe that a song that hits #21 on the American Top 40 charts and can still be heard on Adult Contemporary radio all over the world isn't given more attention in the cover world. I mean, if Winnie the Pooh can get dozens of covers why can't You'll Be in My Heart?

For whatever reason, jazz musician STEVE TYRELL decided to include the Tarzan ballad on his 2006 album DISNEY STANDARDS. This song and When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2 are the two newest tracks on the album, both having been featured in movies that came out in 1999. I can accept You'll Be in My Heart being called standard (although if it were a standard wouldn't it be covered more?) but would you really call When She Loved Me a standard? I don't know about that.

As it stands right now, it seems like the only covers of this song are off albums released by Disney Records, the newest one being a cover by Drew Seeley on next month's DISNEYMANIA 6. If any of you know a cover of this song that is not Disney produced, please let me know!

By the way, DAVID KOZ, a well known jazz saxophonist, plays the sax solo and I think he is singing back up vocals as well.

You'll Be in My Heart - Usher

In February of 2002, R&B artist USHER won the Grammy Award for 'Best Male R&B Vocal Performance' so it made sense for Disney to ask him to be a part of DISNEYMANIA, the first volume in a series of albums devoted to Disney cover songs. The track Usher covers here is the Phil Collins version of You'll Be in My Heart from Tarzan.

The song, about the strong bond that love can have between two people, has become very popular in the mainstream world. Phil Collins' powerful drums mixed with the gentile melody and lyrics made it an anthem for those who are forced to leave loved one behind.

Usher's treatment to the song is very appropriate. The R&B drum tracks and guitar work keep the feel of the song but compliment Usher's style perfectly. Usher has a great voice and he uses it perfectly here. His talent is being able to show off by not showing off. He keeps it simple and tasteful.
