DJ Skribble Megamix - DJ Skribble

The mid 90s saw a trend that was becoming popular for every artist. The dance remix. It seemed that every hit song needed to have its own techno version so that the clubs could play it. Remix albums became super popular and often found at the end of those albums was a megamix.

A little late on the bandwagon, Disney released DISNEY REMIX MANIA in 2005 which was an album of techno remixes of the already electronic-heavy versions of past DISNEYMANIA cover songs. And yes, you can find a megamix at the end of this album.

This megamix is remixed by DJ SKRIBBLE and features Under The Sea by Raven-Symone, I Won't Say [I'm In Love] by the Cheetah Girls and Cruella De Vil by Lalaine. All three tracks were originally heard on DISNEYMANIA 3 and have their own individual remix on DISNEY REMIX MANIA.

I'm not really a fan of these dance/techno remixes, but megamixes are fun. And I like medleys and hearing the way the songs are tied together. However, this megamix is not that great. It is pretty much three songs tied together with a beat. There is no mushing them together at all. I prefer a little bit more creativity.

So This is Love - Tonya Kelly

It's day three of Remix Week and I'm sharing with you another side of remixes, the dance remix. I am not usually a fan of dance remixes usually because they are unoriginal and boring. That goes for most of MOUSE HOUSE: DISNEY'S DANCE MIXES. The whole album is full of boring, unoriginal dance versions of their songs.

However, this one track by TONYA KELLY is probably the best on the album. It's still cheesy but at least it sounds good. Tonya Kelly, formerly of the 90s R&B group Jade, adds a nice vocal track that really saves the song, in my opinion.

Jade was one of those bands that found fame in the early 90s. Groups like TLC and En Vogue were all the rage and Jade was right there beside them with their tight braids and smooth voices. Although they never reached the same superstar status that the other groups did they still found some fame, enough for them to call it quits in 1994 because they felt it was too much work for not enough money. And too many weirdo fans.

Mickey and Minnie on a Moonlit Night - Matt Land

I've been trying to decide if I want to only post Disney songs from the movies and the parks or do I want to branch out to include other areas of Disney music, such as Walt Disney Records and CDs. I could power this blog just with songs from the features, there are a lot of them and even more covers, after all. But I think I will step out and share with you a cover of a song that was released on a Disney album but not featured in a movie. And this being Obscure Disney Song Friday makes this entry apropos.

In 1987, Disneyland Records released a record of original songs featuring their popular characters all written in the popular bebop/oldies style of the 50s. The record was a hit, especially since Little Richard was featured on one of the tracks.

My favourite track on the album is a do-op song called Mickey and Minnie on a Moonlit Night. And I was quite surprised to hear this track covered on EUROBEAT DISNEY 2. The song is covered by Italian singer/actor MATT LAND who is very popular in the Eurobeat scene. Land is on the Eurobeat label A-Beat C and has contributed his voice to many projects.

Although I am not a big techno or Eurobeat fan, I think this song is treated with respect of the original and does a good job of keeping it tender even with the underlying frantic techno beat. Check out this track and let me know what you think.

Hip Hip Pooh-ray - Domino & Stormy Seven

Today is the 31st anniversary of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, the feature film that took the three Winnie the Pooh short subjects, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, and tied them together in a seamless package.

Today I have chosen to celebrate this anniversary with a song heard at the end of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day from 1968. Hip Hip Pooh-Ray was sung to Pooh after he 'saved' Piglet from almost certain death and to Piglet after he gave up his home for Owl. It was written by the Sherman Brothers and is one of the lesser known Pooh songs.

In 2000, Eurobeat record label A-Beat-C released a series of Eurobeat Disney albums. The fourth in the series focus on Pooh and featured a few obscure Pooh songs, all by Eurobeat's top talent.

One of most recognized names in the Eurobeat is DOMINO who has recorded a number of Disney songs. Domino, whose real name is Allesandra Mirka Gatti, was part of the duo Dave and Domino with her husband until they divorced in 2004. Together, they were one of the top Eurobeat groups and have made a name for themselves since their split.

Thanks to Jamie for turning me onto this album! He doesn't think it's that great (I do agree that it is super cheesy and can get quite annoying a few songs) but the Eurobeat albums are far greater than any of the American produced Dance remix albums.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Jilien

I've had this album for a while but have not really wanted to post any of the track because they are not that great. The album is MOUSE HOUSE: DISNEY'S DANCE MIXES and features dance versions of Disney songs. The tracks are not actually remixes of the original songs but covers in a techno style. I'm not a big techno fan but I know many of you are so here is a track just for you!

And maybe you can help me out. I have no idea who Jilien is and a quick Google search has come up with nothing. If any of you techno fans are reading this, please pass on some info and some links about Jilien! Thanks!
