  Reflection - Michael Crawford

There is a new book coming out tomorrow that may be of interest to readers of this site. The Disney Song Encyclopedia, by Thomas S. Hischak and Mark A. Robinson, is 349 pages of reference material for anyone interested in the music of Disney. The book covers everything, including classic shorts, animated and live action movies and television as well as tunes from the theme parks!

I have not had the pleasure of reading this book yet, but this review says that it is not as complete as it could be. You can get a sneak peek of the book at Amazon.

For no reason or tie-in to this post, I am sharing with you a cover of Reflection from MICHAEL CRAWFORD'S 2001 album, THE DISNEY ALBUM.

This song is originally sung by a woman, so Crawford changes the lyrics to "Who is this man I see" to avoid any gender awkwardness, but it just ends up sounding silly. Although, leaving it the way it was would sound silly too, so it's a lose/lose situation for any male vocalists who want to sing this song.

  Reflection - Mickey B.

It's very fitting that a person with the name Mickey would cover a Disney song. And that is exactly the name of the person who brings us today's cover!

MICKEY B. is a Eurobeat artist who has been making music over the last decade. He has provided many tracks for the various EUROBEAT DISNEY albums over the years with this friends. This version of Mulan's Reflection can be found on EUROBEAT DISNEY 2 which was released in 2001.

The Eurobeat circle is a small one and often the artists work together to make the tracks perfect. Mickey B. has collaborated with other Eurobeat artists such as Domino, Matt Land, A-Beat-C and Spiders From Mars.

Even if you are not a fan of Eurobeat, you have to admit that this techno version of Reflection is better than any of the Christina Aguilera remixes out there.

  Reflection - Mannheim Steamroller

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER delights us today with another track off their album of Disney cover tunes, MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER MEETS THE MOUSE.

This time the song is Reflection from Mulan and in my opinion, this is one of the better tracks on the album. I find that Chip Davis, the man behind the Steamroller, is much better at adapting contemporary pop songs than the classic Disney tunes. The Asian sounds he puts in this cover are a nice touch too.

  Reflection - Jordan Sparks

Let's continue on with American Idol week with a track from the most recent season of the popular show. JORDAN SPARKS was the youngest Idol winner when she won the sixth season contest at only 17 years old! Her singing was constantly good and she never landed in the bottom three for the entire season.

She has moved on to release her first album which was released a few months ago has already gone gold and her single, Tattoo, reached #8 on the US Hot 100 chart! Just like Ruban and Clay, Jordan is in a battle with runner up Blake Lewis to see who gets the most album sales and digital downloads.

Jordan's performance of Reflection was the second song she sang for the contest and was well liked by the judges.

  Reflection - Kyrie Stern

I'm not a fan of Karaoke recordings. If you are going to cover a song then please do something with the song and make it your own!

I try not to post "Karaoke covers" here because there are so many other great cover songs that I can post. But today is Terrible Track Friday and I couldn't help but share this one with you.

I think that the most important thing about recording a "Karaoke cover" is that you must have a great voice, because without it you have nothing going for you. This is something that KYRIE STERN is having a bit of trouble with. She had a recording of Reflection up on her website for a while proving to the world that she isn't Christina Aguilera. It also shows that she didn't have the proper tools for recording otherwise she would have used a pitch corrector. The moment that she belt out Who is that girl I see I had to turn it off.

But what about the rest of her music? I must point out that with a little bit of studio time and production Kyrie Stern is really good! Check out her myspace and listen to the tracks Three Days and All I Do. They are great tracks. I'm glad she took this one off her site. It wasn't doing her any good.
