Exit Music - On the Record Cast

Today track is the Exit Music from the short lived Broadway production On the Record from 2005. This medley features a variety of songs:

Like most of the music in this production, the arrangements in this track is what makes it so special. The songs just seem to flow into each other as if they were all written by the same person.

I know there is not much the Colonel Hathi's March part of this medley, but it's the only cover of that song I've got.

Mickey Mouse Club March - Yasuharu Konishi & Pizzicato Five

Happy birthday to Mouseketeer DARLENE GILLESPIE who is 67 today! Darlene was an original and faithful member of the Mickey Mouse Club during it original run from 1955-1959. We are celebrating her birthday today with a Japanese cover of the Mickey Mouse March from the album READYMADE DIGS DISNEY.

Readymade Digs Disney was produced by YASUHARU KONISHI, founder of Readymade Entertainment. This album features the music of PIZZACATO FIVE, a band that Konishi founded in 1985. However, since this album was released in 2003 and Pizzacato Five broke up in 2002, I'm assuming that Konishi, who is a well known arranger and remixer, took the recorded tracks and turned it into this album.

READYMADE DIGS DISNEY is one of the best Disney cover albums I have heard. It is unique and interesting to listen to, it has a great variety of songs and styles and is just really well produced. I will be planning a Readymade Digs Disney week in May so be prepared to hear some more from this album!

Mickey Mouse March/Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Medley - The Disney Big Band

We continue Big Band Week with a medley of two of the most famous Disney songs of all: The Mickey Mouse March from the Mickey Mouse Club and Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from Song of the South. It is performed by THE DISNEY BIG BAND who you can hear performing live throughout the park and resorts.

This track is from the MUSIC FROM THE PARK album that features song that you can hear in Disneyland. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is from Splash Mountain and the Mickey Mouse March can be heard practically everywhere you go in various different styles.

I really like this arrangement because of the creativity of the arranger. Both of the songs don't have very much to work with but the arranger takes both melodies and finds a way to make them interesting to listen to. Some of the melodies are also changed up a bit. At 1:30 the M-I-C-K-E-Y bit is syncopated and they throw in a couple of extra notes to keep the rhythm going. It sounds sort of like M-I-C-C-K-E-Y-Y-M-O-U-S-E.

If Walt Disney was still alive today, he'd be celebrating his 106th birthday. I've chosen to celebrate his birthday by singing the theme to his famous television show, The Mickey Mouse Club!

This hard rock version of the the Mickey Mouse March is remade by rocker ANDREW WK who joins the list of 'people we never thought we'd hear a Disney cover song from'. But his version is really good! So full of energy and excitement! I'm sure that Walt would have loved this as the theme song in a more modern version of the show!

Andrew WK is a very good musician. He has been performing and writing since he was thirteen! He is best known for his two albums, I GET WET, which sports a picture of him bleeding from the nose on the cover, and THE WOLF, on which he played all the instruments. His career has taken him on tours all over the world and more recently behind the soundboard to record and mix other artists! This is a man of many talents!

Mickey Mouse Club March/The Ballad of Davy Crockett

Walt Disney was one of the earliest people to jump on the television bandwagon and the Disney presence has been there ever since. This medley strings together the themes from two of Walt's earliest TV projects.

The Mickey Mouse March from the Mickey Mouse Club (1955) is the first half of the medley and the Ballad of Davy Crockett from the TV serials that are commonly known as the Adventures of Davy Crockett brings up the end. This song is found on the 2003 release O MICKEY, WHERE ART THOU? which was made to capitalize on the bluegrass craze that swept the music world after the release of O Brother, Where Art Thou? While the music is nice, it's not really bluegrass. Certain elements, like Aubrey Haynie's fiddle and Randy Korhs' dobro, are bluegrass but there is far more country here than there should be.

Although no names are credited, the liner notes tell me that Bryan Sutton, Mark Casstevens and Kerry Marx played guitar, Randy Kohrs played the dobro, Larry Paxton played bass, Aubrey Haynie played the fiddle, Richard Bailey played banjo and Sam Bush played the mandolin. All of these players, and others, are top of the line session players and provide all the music for this album.
