  Upular - Pogo

The Academy Award Nominees List has come out today and it looks like Pixar's Up has been nominated for Best Animated Feature, Sound Editing, Original Score, Original Screenplay and..... BEST PICTURE!

Being nominated for the Best Picture Oscar is an incredible honour for any animated movie as it has only happened once in the past, Beauty and the Beast in 1991. I don't think it will win because it is up against some pretty stiff competition, but it should at least win Best Animated Feature since none of those movie were also nominated for Best Picture.

Anyway, today I am sharing with you another track from POGO. I've posted a few tracks of his in the past and you may remember him as the guy who created music out of sounds from movies. He was virtually unknown then, but his music has achieved world-wide fame thanks to outlets like youtube and last.fm. He has recently been approached by Honda about a commercial deal! Good job!

The song I'm sharing with you today is called Upular is composed using chords, bass notes and vocal samples from Up. This sounds really cool when you listen to it, but the real treat is watching the video to go along with it:

  Bread and Butterflies - Pogo

Cartoon Brew pointed out this new South African artist who took samples from Alice in Wonderland and mixed them in to a song all of their own. Although it's not really a cover, it is really cool and I knew I had to share it with you as soon as I heard it!

19-year-old Nick Bertke is the genius behind this music. He says of the four tracks he recorded “90% is composed using sounds recorded from the Disney film ‘Alice In Wonderland’.” The amount of time and editing that went into these songs must be incredible. Take a listen and you'll know what I'm talking about.

In this one track, titled Bread and Butterflies, you'll hear samples from Painting the Roses the Red, Twas Brillig and Golden Afternoon. All four of the tracks can be downloaded for free here.
