DJ Skribble Megamix - DJ Skribble

The mid 90s saw a trend that was becoming popular for every artist. The dance remix. It seemed that every hit song needed to have its own techno version so that the clubs could play it. Remix albums became super popular and often found at the end of those albums was a megamix.

A little late on the bandwagon, Disney released DISNEY REMIX MANIA in 2005 which was an album of techno remixes of the already electronic-heavy versions of past DISNEYMANIA cover songs. And yes, you can find a megamix at the end of this album.

This megamix is remixed by DJ SKRIBBLE and features Under The Sea by Raven-Symone, I Won't Say [I'm In Love] by the Cheetah Girls and Cruella De Vil by Lalaine. All three tracks were originally heard on DISNEYMANIA 3 and have their own individual remix on DISNEY REMIX MANIA.

I'm not really a fan of these dance/techno remixes, but megamixes are fun. And I like medleys and hearing the way the songs are tied together. However, this megamix is not that great. It is pretty much three songs tied together with a beat. There is no mushing them together at all. I prefer a little bit more creativity.

Cruella De Vil - Steve Tyrell

To coincide with the DVD release of 101 Dalmatians that hits the stores today, I have posted a cover of Cruella De Vil to fit in with this week's theme, Villains Week.

Cruella is one of the most glamorous villains in the Disney Villains legacy. She is rich and a diva, but she is also completely insane! Her obsession with the dalmatians sets her apart from other villains who seem to keep their mind when pursuing their goal. Cruella is just plain crazy and her over the top expressions and outbursts a really fun cartoon character.

The scariest thing about Cruella is that she is a person. She is not a witch or a monster or something out of your imagination. She could actually exist in reality. I think the car chase scene is more frightening than Ursula growing gigantic or Maleficent turning into a dragon because it is an action that can be replicated in real life. She is truly a scary person.

Many artists have covered Cruella's theme song, including STEVE TYRELL who released a whole album of Disney songs in 2006. Steve is a jazz artist who got his start singing a song for the Father of the bride soundtrack. He has since gone on to become a popular modern jazz musician.

Cruela Cruel - Marcos Valle

Halloween is coming up so the next few days will feature some Halloween themed songs. Today's track is not really Halloween themed but features a Disney villain whose birthday is probably October 31, Cruella De Vil.

Let's go down to Brazil, the home of bossa nova and listen to a version translated into Portuguese and given a smooth, cool sound. All of this is thanks to MARCOS VALLE who is not only a successful bossa nova artist but has also found success bring that style to the mainstream world.

Although Valle has been making music since the 60s, his real influence in the music world was in the 90s when he merged bossa nova with electronica and brought it to the club scene. He called drum 'n' bossa and it was a huge hit.

But this track brings Valle back to his roots and turns the song that was meant to be insulting into a song that I sure Cruella would fine very complementary.

Cruella De Vil - Hayden Panettiere

Hi there. I'm Jamie from over at Fong Songs, a music blog devoted mostly to cover songs and other music I'm interested in. Kurtis invited me to guest post over here and I eagerly accepted since I'm a Disney cover lover myself. With the 2nd season of Heroes starting this week, I thought it'd be apropos to discuss a Disney cover by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.

The cute-as-a-button HAYDEN PANETTIERE plays the cheerleader Claire Bennet whose special power is "spontaneous regeneration", or alternatively, Wolverine's super-healing on steroids. Panettiere has provided voiceovers for several Disney projects. These include Dot, the little princess ant, in Pixar's A Bug's Life; Suri, a lemur, in Disney's 2000 computer animated film (non-Pixar) Dinosaur; and even the voice of Kairi in the Disney/Final Fantasy mash-up video game Kingdom Hearts and its sequel. She was also in the Disney Channel original movie Tiger Cruise... so as you can see, she is no stranger to the Disney empire. Let us all hope she doesn't become the next Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan, though her upcoming debut album due this year or next is setting off warning bells. This bit of trivia surprised me: she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for A Bug's Life Read-Along, but lost to something read by Kate Winslet.

Here, Hayden tackles the song Cruella De Vil from Disney's 101 Dalmatians. As with most songs from the DISNEYMANIA series, it suffers from being a wee bit overproduced. But it's not that bad and it's catchy. I'm quite partial to Dr. John's version, but let's leave that for another day. Thanks very much Kurtis for letting me be a guest on your blog. Swing by my blog to check out some Heroes-themed tracks. See you next time, folks!
