The Work Song - Take 6

I was going to post this track on Friday, but never got a chance to, so here it is today!

This version of The Work Song from Cinderella is one of the two covers I have of this song. It can be found on THE MUSIC OF DISNEY'S CINDERELLA which was released back in 1995.

The song features a pretty impressive a cappella arrangement by TAKE 6, a gospel sextet from Alabama that was popular, especially in the religious market, in the 80s and 90s. The group has won numerous awards, including 10 Grammys, and are still active to this day!

Another Disney connection: Founding member Claude McKnight is the older brother of R&B musician Brian McKnight who recorded the song Remember the Magic for Walt Disney World's 25th Anniversary.

Cruella De Vil - Vocal Spectrum

Actor ROD TAYLOR turns 90 today! Happy birthday, Rod!

Taylor's most famous films include H.G. Wells' Time Machine and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, but he was also the voice Pongo in 101 Dalmatians! Taylor is still active to this day, most recently playing Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

To celebrate his birthday, I have posted a track by the Missouri a capella group VOCAL SPECTURM. This cover of Cruella De Vil can be found on their self-titled 2006 release, VOCAL SPECTRUM and contains some pretty impressive harmonies. But this shouldn't be a surprise since they were the International Champions at the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Collegiate Quartet Contest in 2009, a win that can be seen in the 2009 documentary American Harmony.

This song is basically a big spotlight on tenor Tim Waurick whose incredibly powerful set of lungs allow him to hold his final note for 33 seconds! Wow!

  It's a Small World - Rockapella

When Walt Disney created the Small World ride for the World's Fair in 1964, he went to the Sherman Brothers for a song. He originally wanted the ride to feature all the nations theme songs, but when he realized that it would end up sounding like a garbled mess the Sherman Brothers wrote him a song that would unify all the worlds. Little did they know that It's a Small World would go down in history as one of the most annoying songs ever.

However, this version of It's a Small World is by the awesome a cappella group ROCKAPELLA. The group, which is most famous for their Folgers commercials and the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? game show, turns this annoying tune into a very complex piece of music.

For those of you who don't know about this style of music, a cappella is music that is made completely with the human voice. There are no instruments used at all. Every single sound you hear is made with the human voice! Way cool.
