End Title - The Album Leaf

The post-rock genre is an interesting one. Much more laid back and ambient than mainstream or pop rock, post-rock uses traditional rock instruments in a non-traditional fashion. One of my favourite bands, Sigur Rós, plays an electric guitar with a cello bow to create textures and dynamics rather than riffs and power chords. Non-traditional instruments such as the harp, toy piano and maybe even a small orchestra often make their way into post-rock compositions, and the use of digital effects and synthesizers is not uncommon.

Early post-rock influence can be heard as early as the 60s with bands like Velvet Underground. The term came about in the 90s to describe bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Stereolab and Mogwai. But it wasn't until the early 2000s that post-rock really hit the mainstream market. Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky, and Pelican are a few of my favourites.

Another one of my favourites, THE ALBUM LEAF is one of a few post-rock bands to appear on NIGHTMARE REVISITED, a cover album that covers not only the songs of Nightmare Before Christmas, but the score as well! Post-rock bands a made for score covers and Album Leaf proves this with their cover of the End Titles.
