Of all the songs in the Silly Symphonies, Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf is the most well-known, as is its cartoon, The Three Little Pigs.
When the song debuted in 1933, it became a top selling single on vinyl and sheet music. Many artists of the day recorded their own version which usually went on to great success in dance halls around the world.
Such is the story of one of the earliest Who's Afraid covers by HARRY RESER who recorded this track with the Clicquot Club Eskimos in 1933. The track was so popular that ARC Records made it the B-side to six different records around that time.
The Clicquot Club Eskimos was a banjo orchestra conducted by Harry Reser who himself was a banjo virtuoso. They performed together on a radio variety show of the same name sponsored by Clicquot Club ginger ale. Joining them on vocals is LORETTA CLEMONS whose first take of this song was rejected by ARC records. She came back a week later, October 4, 1933, to record it again, which is the version you hear here. Clemons puts her own special touch in this version by exclaiming "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? Not me!"
