Here is a fun little track recorded by the WALT DISNEY WORLD BAND in 1973 for a record called A MUSICAL SOUVENIR OF WALT DISNEY WORLD'S MAGIC KINGDOM which was available through Disneyland Records. A few years later it was released on a record called WALT DISNEY WORLD BAND
The second and third songs in the medley are easily recognizable as Song of the South's Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and Snow White's Whistle While You Work, but it's the first song that I want to highlight.
Hi to You was written by Jimmy Dodd for the 56th episode of the Mickey Mouse Club which aired on December 19, 1955. The song, which was based on a Scandinavian folk song, was used in a segment about Christmas in Switzerland, which was in turn part of the week's theme of "Christmas Around the World". In the segment, Hi to You was performed by Jimmy Dodd and Mouseketeers Karen and Johnny (pictured above). It later became sort of a theme for Round-Up Day.
Read the lyrics, which I've included below, and follow along with the music. Even though it is an instrumental, I'm sure you'll be able to get an idea of how it goes!
"Hi" to you and "Hi" to me.
"Hi" to everyone.
It's an easy thing to say
And it's lots of fun.
"Hi" to all good Mouseketeers.
Round-up time is nigh.
Round up all the talent now.
Greet them with a "Hi".
A little word (a little word),
But mighty too (but mighty too).
When you say "Hi" to folks,
Folks say "Hi" to you.
It's contagious, "Hi, Hi, Hi"!
Try it out and see.
Smile at everyone and say
"Hi" to you and me.
That's just the first part. There are two more sections to the song, which you can read here.
