Alice in Wonderland/Un-Birthday Song - Rosemary Clooney

In case you weren't aware, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was released yesterday on DVD and Blu-ray. This movie had a lot going for it, but I must say that I prefer the original Disney classic from 1951.

Since the Mad Hatter plays such a big role in this new version of Alice, I have chosen a cover that was originally sung by Ed Wynn's Mad Hatter and Jerry Colonna's March Hare, The Un-Birthday Song.

This medley is the A-side of an EP recorded by ROSEMARY CLOONEY and conducted by PERCY FAITH on April 27, 1951 called SONGS FROM 'ALICE IN WONDERLAND'. The B-side included another medley, All in the Golden Afternoon/I'm Late. Since the movie came out in July of 1951, I can only assume that this recording was made to be released in conjunction with the film.

You can hear this track on ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH, a collection of vintage big band covers of Disney movies pre-1953.

I'm not sure what to think about this track. As I'm not aware of Clooney's repertoire, I find that it sounds like she is under performing, in contrast to the original versions from the film.

So, it is just a tolerable track, with not much going for it, in my humble opinion.
