A Whole New World - Ruben Studdard

To celebrate one of the only shows back with a new season due to the writers strike, I'm having an American Idol Week here at Covering the Mouse. The first contestant up is the winner of the second season in 2003, RUBEN STUDDARD.

Ruben worked hard to get into the music industry for years before his fame on American Idol. And he still had to work hard to compete with runner-up Clay Akien's career. But despite all that, Ruben has done a great job, released three albums, toured the world and was nominated Grammy in 2004 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

His cover of A Whole New World was one of the better songs he sang and a crowd pleaser too. The fans and judges loved it. This version is one of the few covers I have that turns this duet into a solo number.

He was able to turn it into a solo number because he didn't sing the whole song! lol

Although one of the things I like about this song is the way some of the singing overlaps...and obviously that can't be done if you're singing it solo. So I think this song needs to stay a duet :)

Ruben was nominated for a Grammy but didn't win.

Ruben, not Ruban.
