When I heard that Disney was re-releasing the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack I couldn't believe it when I read who was going to be doing cover songs on the album. Marilyn Manson? Fall Out Boy? Panic! at the Disco? Could these bands really pull off Disney cover tunes? The answer is yes! Well, for the most part, anyway.
These days, Nightmare Before Christmas has gained a huge cult following of wannabe goth and emo teens and Disney has seen this and released a whole ton of merch to cater to this crowd. Knowing this, it makes it easier to realize why Disney picked the artists they did for this album.
Now, about this track. MARILYN MANSON is a perfect match for this Danny Elfman classic! Both styles work together in complete unison! The song works with Manson's goth-industrial sound and lyrically, it is as if Elfman was writing this song about Manson himself! And hearing Manson sing lines like I am the clown with the tear-away face and I am the monster under your bed! doesn't sound unusual at all! Absolutely perfect! This is one of my favourite Disney covers.
Happy Halloween everyone! I hope it is a spooky night!

I bought the rereleased soundtrack because I loved the movie and Danny Elfman is awesome, but when I looked at the track listing, all I noticed on the second disc were the last five tracks or so which were demos. I didn't look any closer til I saw this post! This is the absolute perfect cover song!

This is such a perfect marriage of Marilyn Manson with the music of Danny Elfman, but it sounds just unique enough to make it not an average cover. I think it helps aslo that I do like the music of Marilyn Manson (to some extent) as well as The Nightmare Before Christmas, which still remains one of my all-time favourite animated musicals by a country mile.

I think this is the best cover on the board yet. While I love many of them, this one is perfect, and Manson is the artist who could do this the best!
I find the word emo and goth a very weird word to describe Nightmare Before Christmas fans and I wouldn't exactly call any of the artist who did the covers emo. But hey, thats just me. I thought the covers were waaaay sweet. It would be funny if they chose some grindcire band or something to do a cover...
I didn't say that if you are a fan of Nightmare you are goth or emo, I am just saying that the film, due to its overly emotional characters and dark sets and costumes, tends to attract those who would call themselves goth or emo.
I wouldn't call all of the artists emo either, Manson isn't. But emo has roots in harcore/punk and features more emotion in their lyrics and performances that normal punk bands don't have. Therefore I would call Fall Out Boy emo.
