Los Lobos did a cover of "I Wanna Be Like You (the Monkey Song)" from the Jungle Book (the animated version.) Please post.

The Replacements did a cover of Cruella De Vil- you can find it on the 2nd of the 2-disc All For Nothing/Nothing For All set.

I second the request for Los Lobos' version of "I wanna be like you (the Monkey Song)." I'm pretty sure it was on the Stay Awake album. It totally swings with a great baritone sax line! Great blog -- I really enjoy it!

    Christine said...

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy also did a cover of "I Wanna Be Like You," and Suburban Legends covered "Under the Sea." Not sure if there's a recording of the latter one, but they perform it whenever they play the House of Blues in Downtown Disney.

I would love to hear any covers of "Strangers like Me" if there are any.

Hey, neat blog! You should check out Buckethead. He's a huge Disney fan. On almost every tour he's played one or two covers. On his last tour he played Grim Grinning Ghosts with That 1 Guy. Check out the video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYct_HbAXn0. He's also covered Pirates Life for Me. He even called one of his tours "Disney World to Disney Land Tour" and is supposedly working on an album of all Disney covers!

Please do a report of Feed the Birds by Garth Hudson (from The Band) from the 1988 album Stay Awake. This is the best cover version of any song I have ever heard, and is just as powerful and emotional as the version featured in Mary Poppins. You listen to the song at this link: http://garth-hudson-feed-the-birds-mp3-download.kohit.net/_/49735

    Thanks!

If you could get the cover of Part of That World by Jessica Simpson, that would be wonderful! She definitely does the best cover of the song in my opinion.

Every time I come to your site, I glance at the Hercules image and it makes me yearn for a song from the movie. I was also wondering if you had any covers for Hunchback of Notre Dame or The Sword in the Stone. The rest of my movie favorites you've mostly covered ;)

Since next week is Villains Week, I would like to hear for "Terrible Track Friday," the dance mix of Cruella de Vil, because that track is just TERRIBLE enough to be a part of Terrible Track Friday. I'll explain it: What it is is basically a boring house/techno rhythm and a ghastly "musical" combination of horn samples from the film and samples from Cruella's evil laugh (and her car). If any bit of the song is mentioned, it comes back from time to time, and the original version a very short song indeed, lasting at about 1:49. This rather peculiar and atrocious dance mix brings it up to a grating 3:10. This raises the question: Why, of all the songs to re-arrange to a dance format, did they have to pick this one, and use the ORIGINAL recording as a basis?

    Josh said...

And by the way, I was that last commenter who requested "Cruella de Vil."

    Anonymous said...

You might disagree and want to put it on Terrible Track Friday, but I love Captain Bogg and Salty's piratical cover of Part of Your World.

Hi, I'm from Chile, in the end of the world. I found your blog looking for Disney Covers. This is a great site so I visit it every day, although sometimes I don't understand, because I speak Spanish.
I'd like to hear more Heigh-Ho! Mozart, because I've tried to find the songs but I can't.
My favorite Disney covers are Kiss The Girl, sung by Ashley Tisdale and Part of Your World, sung by Skye Sweetnam, so I would enjoy too much if I saw these songs here
And I'd like to listen to any cover made by 'Operacion Triunfo', a group from Spain. My favorites are "Aquella Estrella" (The Second Star to the Right), "Quiero Ser Como TĂş" (I Wan'na Be Like You) and "Ay Ho" (Heigh-Ho)
I'm sorry if I wrote a nonsense, but English is not my language, I'm 16 and I'm learning to speak English. Please correct me.

"Chao. Que les vaya muy bien"

Have any Barbra Streisand? She did a great Someday My Prince Will Come. She also supposedly did Rainbow Connection, not really Disney - but kinda... I have always really wanted to hear that one. It is such a sweet song. And what about Michael Jackson? He did a When You Wish Upon a Star for a TV special - did he ever do any proper ones?

It is a 100%, completely true, subjective FACT that "Savages" from Pocahontas is Disney's greatest song EVER! Interestingly enough, it is because it is so non-Disney. Please, please, PLEASE, in the most horrible, actually-make-you-not-want-to-help-me tone of voice, find a bangin' cover? Thanks for your precious time. Kay bye-bye.

Scouring your site for this Vote 2008, I couldn't help but notice a screencap from The Great Mouse Detective... any covers of that "Oh Ratigan!" song--which I just found out is called "World's Greatest Criminal Mind" and written by Henri Mancini! To me, it seems a precursor to the Gaston song in Beauty & the Beast with the drunken reverent chorus.

Might you have anything from Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Also, some of the more obscure songs (you know, not "Candle on the Water" or "It's Not Easy") from Pete's Dragon would be fun. And while I usually don't care for the sequels, The Jungle Book 2 contains two fun original songs, "Jungle Rhythm" and "W-I-L-D." Any chance those've been covered?

Love the 'blog! Keep up the great selections!

The reason why this song sounds familiar is because it is a famous classical piece by Ludwig van Beethoven:

Great stuff here already! But i sure would love to hear - and read about - Natalee Merchant's cover of Drip Drip Drop (Little April Flower?) - i don't THINK it was 10,000 Maniacs... it was on the same album as Tom Waits Heigh-Ho & Bonny Raitt's stunning "Baby Mine". Lost the disc years ago. Guess i could replace it if i worked at it a little. The point is - i'm lazy and broke (and want to read about the behind the scenes stuff)!

In the Dark of the Night
(Anastasia) is easily my favorite Disney song ever. I would adore it if anyone has covered it in all its glory.

    Be a Man
(Mulan) has a great epic melody and powerful lyrics; if there exists a rock version, it would be amazing.

    I concur that
    Hellfire
(The Hunchback of Notre Dame) must have someone who wants to do it justice.

    The Plagues
(The Prince of Egypt) is a powerful song that really deserves some attention.

    Deliver Us
(The Prince of Egypt) is beautiful, but my favorite is it in Hebrew--just beautiful.

If any of these are covered it will be a Great Success. Thank you very much for doing this blog. You, sir, are a boon to the internet. Thanks!

There is a stunning version of "Go the Distance" from Hercules by Broadway star Norm Lewis (playing King Triton right now in The Little Mermaid on Broadway). I'm a big fan of his, and this is my favorite song he's done. You can buy it off of iTunes-- the CD is entitled "This Is The Life."

Incidentally, the reason why I came to this site was to look for a version of "Hellfire" (my favorite Disney song) or "Be Prepared" (my other favorite), and I was sad to see that there weren't any versions of either. Think there are any out there?
